Fair Share installed the portal for Skillster Heroes, a nationwide organisation that helps ex-servicemen move into civilian careers, and supports it on an ongoing basis.

The challenge
Every year, thousands of Indian service personnel retire, many of them in their late thirties or forties. They bring years of experience in leadership, logistics, security, operations and technical trades. But military ranks and roles rarely map neatly onto civilian job titles. General job portals also bury veteran-friendly roles among millions of unrelated listings.
Skillster needed a focused place where veterans could find employers who value their experience, and where those employers could find them.
What we built
Rather than build from scratch, we installed a Skillster-branded instance of Fair Jobs, the job-portal software that Fair Share owns and develops. The same software already powers our own Fair Jobs portal and Japanese Language Professionals, a portal for Japanese language experts. This gave Skillster a proven, production-ready portal quickly, under their own name, domain and contact details.
Key features
- Simple job search: candidates search by job title or keyword (“What”) and by city or state (“Where”).
- Post your resume: veterans register once and upload their resume, so the right job can find them.
- Resume–job matching: posted resumes are matched against open roles.
- Clear job cards: every listing shows location, salary, minimum experience, skill tags and how recently it was posted.
- Veteran-focused listings: roles aimed at ex-servicemen, including positions for JCOs and PBORs/NCOs, and remote opportunities for military spouses.
- Easy access for recruiters: employers can reach the portal’s team directly to post jobs and find candidates. Contact details are set by each portal’s own admin.
Part of a bigger mission
The portal is the hiring end of Skillster Heroes’ wider work. Skillster helps ex-servicemen translate military skills into civilian competencies through strength assessment, personalised consulting, upskilling and a launch pad for a new profession. It also runs employability advocacy, entrepreneurship development and in-work support for both employer and employee.
Skillster offers its services free to Battle Casualty soldiers and Veer Naris, and charges no fees to employers who hire war widows or Battle Casualty soldiers.
