Top Three Reason to Sign Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)

Top Three Reason to Sign Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)

Top most reason is “Peace of Mind”! But this is more of a result of AMC so we will list reasons behind it:

  1. Websites could go down for any reason like software or hardware upgrades, hosting issues. Hosting companies may not even proactively report it to the client. So you may not get alert for days unless someone specifically reports it to you. Your leads will simply go away with a bad impression.
  2. Your website might get hacked and you need someone to fix it. Many times, hackers leave a really insulting message that might hurt your reputation.
  3. You might want to make some changes but the person who developed your website is no longer reachable. But you can’t hold him responsible since he delivered the website per contract but there was no AMC in place.
  4. Bonus: Your team has made some changes by mistake and your website has stopped working. There was no backup! This is a huge responsibility. We have invested heavily in tools to ensure your website is safe.

We have a blog dedicated to backups: https://fairshare.tech/2020/07/26/top-three-questions-to-ask-your-it-partner-about-backup/

We also offer AMC for businesses who have not developed website from us. In this case the domain and hosting can still remain with your other IT partner (we will not be responsible for renewal and related costs). Please choose any one of the below plans (domain and hosting costs not included):

Open source software that needs IT help

One can simply walk-in at many clinics and take appointments at the reception. This simply increases the risk of infections.  We tried many ready made systems that could help. This could be used by doctors and barber shops. Here is a demo setup:

You can find link to the open source software and ask your IT partner to help. As usual, we will be glad to serve you if needed.

Top three questions to ask your IT partner about backup.

Top three questions to ask your IT partner about backup.

Read this blog to learn about Top three questions to ask your IT partner:

  1. Do you backup my website?
  2. Do you take backup every week?
  3. Is it taken automatically?
  4. Bonus question 1: Do you know how to restore backup?
  5. Bonus question 2: Is the backup saved in a different location than the host? (remote backup is very important otherwise when your main host becomes unavailable the backup also becomes unavailable!)

If answer to all questions is YES then your website is in the safe hands. If answer to any of the questions is NO then please contact the numbers given at the end of this page.

“There is no need to have backup! It is a waste of money.” I start praying for the speaker when I hear similar sentences. In my 26 years in IT, I have seen really bad things happening:

  1. One of my highly competent colleague deleted all rows in a very important database table when he was expected to delete only one row. There was no backup and company had to spend weeks to manually put those back from printouts!
  2. I have seen laptop disks crashing beyond recovery and people losing years of photos and months of hard work.
  3.  People spend months on making a decent website it is gone because there was no back up.
  4. In some cases backups are old and irrelevant.
  5. In some cases backups are on the same disk that crashed! Or all the same data center that is not accessible due to earthquake.
  6. Hackers are known to attack website and hold it for ransom.

There is no limit to how much one can worry. But if you are serious about your website then make sure that your website backup is taken on a remote server and at least every week automatically.

Fair Share IT Services Private Limited has taken third party backup package for it’s clients having WordPress based sites. It is part of the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC). Backups are taken at a remote server automatically every day. More than two months worth of backup are kept so that you can rollback to any day’s version within that period. There are security checks as well (though this is limited as security is a lot complex). Fair Share IT Services Private Limited also offers this service to clients who do not have AMC with us. Please contact us on the numbers given below and we will understand your exact requirement.

If you take your website seriously then make sure you have frequent remote backups. This is how the dashboard looks like for our own website:

Here is a report that we send to our clients on a weekly basis:

Domain owner is the king! Don’t let your developer hold your domain for ransom!

Domain owner is the king! Don’t let your developer hold your domain for ransom!

Read this blog to learn about Domain owner is the king! Don’t let your developer hold your domain for ransom!

Above diagram shows the basic setup. Your developer is dealing with multiple vendors. The first and most important being Domain Registrar (you decide the DNS vendor here). The second being DNS (you decide hosting and/or email company here). The third being web hosting company and fourth being email service provider. You can get all these services from the same vendor or 4 different vendors. To make things complex, I have used all four different vendors but normally it is three (this is debatable so not getting into that).

Domain Registrar –> DNS (A-record) –> Website hosting company (machine)

–> DNS (MX-record) –> Email hosting company

So anyone who has Domain Registrar a/c access for that domain can change everything else. Let’s assume domain name is fairshare.tech

  1. let’s say your developer is not responding or asking you to pay unreasonable service charges
  2. copy the contents of website to another hosting (means different IP address)
  3. point A-record –> new IP Address
  4. That’s it … fairshare.tech will be up and running again!
  5. Occasionally, even after updating the A-record, you may find that your website isn’t loading properly. Here is how you can debug this issue: (1) Check DNS settings using (2) You might also read and try if A-record is propagated globally: https://fairshare.tech/2021/09/28/how-to-ensure-website-availability-from-other-countries/ (3)  This issue could be due to your Windows laptop retaining outdated DNS information in its cache. To address this, initiate the Command Prompt and execute the command ping domainname. If the output displays the old IP address, you should clear the DNS cache by running ipconfig /flushdns. After clearing the cache, attempt the ping command once more. This procedure often resolves the issue. However, if the problem persists, it indicates that the root cause lies elsewhere.
